Shire President Update
Earlier this year it was announced that the Shire of Irwin had successfully secured $5 million in Australian Government funding under the Bridges Renewal Program (BRP) for much-needed upgrades to the Irwin River Milo Rd Crossing. The project, which is expected to cost over $6.7 million, also received $600,000 from Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) and Beach Energy, with the Shire of Irwin covering the remaining costs.
These recent heavy rains and subsequent closure of Milo Road has once again highlighted the inadequacies of Milo Road, particularly the Irwin River crossing.
The road is a crucial part of our regional heavy haulage route and is heavily utilized for grain, fertilizer, stock, and lime sand cartage, as well as general traffic. However, medium to heavy rain events often inundate the crossing, leading to frequent closures adding a 19-kilometre detour onto people’s trips.
The Milo Road Upgrade Project will see the existing low crossing infrastructure replaced with a large culvert structure across the primary channel of the Irwin River (northern side) and a concrete floodway for the remaining section (southern side). The project will also extend the radius of Milo Road by realigning the roadway on either side of the crossing and a dual carriageway created ensuring a more resilient and reliable route.
We are currently going through the process of employing a project manager to oversee the Milo Road Upgrade Project and hope to commence works as soon as possible.
Our Council is committed to ensuring that future growth is not hindered by aging road infrastructure. The upgrades to Milo Road are a crucial step in supporting the ongoing development and prosperity of our community and Iwould like to once again express my gratitude to MEPAU and Beach Energy for their generous support, which has been instrumental in enabling this major community project.
Weather Causes Damage at Granny’s Beach
The recent severe weather and high tides have caused significant damage to the wall and stairs at Granny’s Beach.
Unfortunately we have had to close the stairs until remediation works can be undertaken.
I ask that you please obey all safety instructions and do not enter the fenced off area. Council will keep the community updated on plans to ensure the area is safe and usable as we move closer to the Summer months.

The Shire of Irwin Extraordinary Postal Election will be held on 12 July.
If you appear on the State Electoral Roll as a resident, owner or occupier in the Shire of Irwin you should now have now received a postal vote package.
If you did not receive a package, you can visit the Shire admin office with your I.D and we will provide you with a replacement.
Completed ballots must be returned to the WA Electoral Commission via post by 6pm on election day. Ballots received after this time won’t be counted.
You can also hand deliver your election package to the Shire Admin office on Election Day.
