Just 3.5 hours north of Perth along the stunning Coral Coast of Western Australia, the twin towns of Dongara Port Denison are the ultimate weekend getaway.
Dongara Port Denison are twin towns located along the coast within the Shire of Irwin. The towns run alongside the Brand Highway only a short distance from the Indian Ocean Drive.
Explore the coastline on the Indian Ocean Drive. Take the time to travel this scenic route and enjoy stopping along the way in Lancelin, Cervantes and Jurien Bay. Only three and a half hour drive from Perth, a perfect first night stop on our way further north. You can also approach Dongara Port Denison from inland along the midlands Road, or if you’re travelling from the north, we are located a short 45 minute drive from Geraldton.
Dhungarra – a name given to the area by the local Indigenous people to indicate ‘a meeting place of seals’. Dunga or Thunga meaning Australian Sea Lions and ‘Arra’ for a place. Anglicising of this name gives Dongara its present name.
Climate
During the summer months, the mornings are perfect to head down the beach before the afternoon sea breeze comes in.
The average maximum temperature for summer is between 34-37 degrees.
During the autumn and winter months, the wind drops off and the temperatures are mild. Rainfall occurs mostly during winter, yet rainy days are few and far between.
Spring days are perfect, especially for the events that happen during this time.
