THE VILLAGE
The Village is the result of a joint venture between the Shire of Irwin and the Department of Communities, aimed at providing affordable housing for seniors.
The complex consists of self-contained units, available in one and two bedroom configurations. To view an image of the units click here.
The Irwin Shire manages The Village, handling responsibilities such as rent collection, maintenance, and the re-letting of units as they become vacant.
Eligibility
Applicants must comply with the Department of Communities strict eligibility criteria which includes:
- Must be Australian Citizens or have permanent residency status, and live in WA
- An applicant(s) must not exceed the Housing Authorities income limits
- Seniors under 60 years – not to have cash assets in excess of $38,400 (singles) or $63,800 (couples)
- Seniors over 60 years – not to have cash assets in excess of $80,000 (singles or couples)
- Must not own property or land
- Be able to prove your identity
- Must be 55 years or over

two henry road
Two Henry Road is an independent living community thoughtfully designed to cater to the needs of seniors. The facility features dementia-friendly design and is conveniently located across from the Dongara Health Service, including the Accident and Emergency Department and visiting allied health services, ensuring comprehensive support for ageing in place.
The Shire of Irwin received Livable Housing Australia’s prestigious Platinum Certification for the design of Two Henry Road, a recognised quality mark that signifies exceptional liveability.
Stage One of the Two Henry Road independent living units was officially opened in September 2020. Stage Two followed in July 2022, adding six more units to help older residents continue living within the Irwin community.
As units become available, they will be advertised for eligible seniors to apply.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the Shire of Irwin’s eligibility criteria, which includes:
- Being an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Aged 65 years or older (non-Aboriginal descent) or 55 years or older (Aboriginal descent)
