SHIRE OF IRWIN AUDIT COMMITTEE
The Shire of Irwin Audit Committee plays a key role in assisting the Shire of Irwin to fulfil its governance and oversight responsibilities in relation to financial reporting, internal control structure, risk management systems, legislative compliance, ethical accountability and the internal and external audit functions.

Bush Fire Advisory Committee
The Bush Fire Advisory Committee (BFAC) was established pursuant to Section 67 of the Bush Fires Act 1954. Its role is to advise the Council on bushfire matters pertaining to bush fire prevention, preparedness, and response within the Shire of Irwin.

Community Assistance Scheme & Events Committee (CASE)
The Community Assistance Scheme (CAS) provides financial assistance up to $5,000 to support community events or projects. CAS grants are open in two rounds each year with the schedule being advertised on the Shire of Irwin website.
The role of the CASE committee is to administer, assist and evaluate the distribution of the Community Assistance Scheme funding within budgetary guidelines approved annually by Council. The Committee will assess applications received against the selection criteria before submitting the committee recommendation to Council.
The CASE committee also discuss and provide recommendation to event organisers to encourage events to meet the needs of the community and offer the best opportunity to provide economic benefits and potential to market Dongara and Port Denison outside the Shire.

Local Emergency Management Committee
Under section 38 of the Emergency Management Act 2005, a local government is required to establish one or more Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs) for the local government’s district. However, local governments may unite for the purposes of emergency management and establish one or more LEMC for their combined districts. The LEMC is to be managed and chaired by the local government, with representation from organisations and agencies that play a key role in emergency management within their district.
The functions of a LEMC, in relation to its district or the area for which it is established, are:
- to advise and assist the local government in ensuring that Local Emergency Management Arrangements (LEMAs) are established for its district;
- to liaise with public authorities and other persons in the development, review and testing of the LEMA; and
- to carry out other emergency management activities as directed by the SEMC or prescribed by the regulations.
