Boating & Fishing

FISHING

Whether you are a professional fisherman or just love to cast out a line, Dongara & Port Denison offer it all, from beach fishing to boating to fishing from the breakwalls.

Fishing with children? Try your luck from the marina beach, near the recreational boat ramp or from the fishing platform at Grannies Beach. You can catch a wide range of fish species including tailor, silver bream, sand whiting and herring.

For the more enthusiastic fisherman, venture out onto the breakwalls at the Port Denison Marina and try your hand at catching some of the larger species including mulloway and pink snapper.

Bring your boat and launch at the recreational boat ramp accessible from Point Leander Drive and venture out a bit deeper for a prize dhufish or baldchin groper.

Popular beach fishing spots include Seaspray Beach, 7-mile Beach and South Beach.

BOATING

Launch your boat at the recreational boat ramp, accessible from Point Leander Drive in Port Denison. Log on to the Volunteer Marine Rescue Radio to ensure safety on the water.

At present, the Recreational Jetty in the Port Denison Marina has been deemed unsafe and is out of service. The Shire of Irwin are working toward having the Jetty repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Please contact D.O.T. if you require somewhere to anchor your boat overnight.

Diesel, water and public toilets are located at the commercial service jetty and many services or maintenance requirements can be sought from local businesses.
