Owner builders are required to apply for approval to the Building Services Board before an application for a building permit is made to the Shire of Irwin.  Owner builders are required to obtain a permit for all works valued over $20,000 and are restricted to one building permit every 6 years.

When applying you must show that you have sufficient knowledge of the duties and responsibilities involved in being an owner-builder.  This can be done by completing an owner-builder course or being registered as a building practitioner.
