PUBLIC NOTICE – Vegetation Damage Along Retreat Boulevard

News

The Shire of Irwin is seeking the community’s assistance following reports of trees being cut down, ringbarked and damaged along Retreat Boulevard, together with further reports of vegetation removal in the area.

Unauthorised removal or damage to public vegetation is unacceptable. This vegetation contributes to our coastal environment and the amenity of an area shared by the whole community.

If you have witnessed vegetation removal or damage, or have information that could help identify those responsible, please contact the Shire.

Photographs, CCTV or dashcam footage may also assist.

When providing information, please include:
· The location
· The approximate date and time.
· What you observed.
· Any relevant details about people or vehicles involved.

Even information that may seem minor could help. Phone: (08) 9927 0000 or email: reception@irwin.wa.gov.au

Please provide information directly to the Shire. Do not confront anyone or make public accusations on social media.

Unlawful clearing of native vegetation can attract significant penalties under the Environmental Protection Act 1986, including maximum fines upon conviction of $250,000 for an individual and $500,000 for a body corporate.

The Shire is planning restoration of affected areas, including replacement planting and protective measures where appropriate.

Please leave remaining vegetation undisturbed and respect any fencing installed to protect rehabilitation works.

Retreat Boulevard’s vegetation is a community asset. We ask everyone to help protect it and support the restoration of affected areas for the benefit of the whole community.
