HOUSEHOLD RUBBISH COLLECTION

The Shire of Irwin provides each rateable residential property with one 240 litre rubbish bin weekly collection service. Rateable properties requiring additional bins or services above their entitlement will incur additional fees, as per the current fees and charges.  A Bulk Bin Service (a variety of sizes and collection days) is available on request, with the service fee being added to your rates notice.

Shire household rubbish collection services are provided by Avon Waste.  If you have any questions or issues with your collection services, or for bin repairs or replacements please contact the company directly on 9641 1318 or  admin@avonwaste.com.au

PLACEMENT OF BINS

The mobile bins are emptied by the Shire of Irwin’s contractors and should be by 6.00am on collection days. Residents are advised to put their bins out the night before to avoid them being missed.

All bins should be placed approximately half a metre from the kerb and half a metre apart from each other, with the lid opening to face the road. Do not place bins under trees or park cars in front of bins.

Things that cannot be collected:

  • Heavy bins – over 70 kg
  • Overfull bins – please ensure the bin lid can fully close
  • Loose items – bags next to bins will not be collected

TRANSFER STATION

The Shire of Irwin’s Transfer Station Recycling Centre is located on Dee Street, Port Denison off Point Leander Drive.

  • Aluminium cans
  • Steel products

  • Engine oil

Recycling waste that is accepted

Recycling waste that is accepted at the Transfer Station includes:

  • Greenwaste
  • Aluminium cans
  • Scrap metal
  • Household items which may be of use to somebody
  • Second hand building materials

CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE

The Shire of Irwin has partnered with WA Return Recycle Renew and opened a Containers for Change Refund Point at the Dongara Recycling Centre. 

Important Information

If you are new to the scheme , a scheme ID is a great way to receive your refund straight into your bank account.

Most glass, plastic, aluminium, steel and paper-based cartons between 150ml and 3LContainers not commonly found in litter, including all plain milk, flavoured milk 1L and above, pure juice drinks, wine and spirit bottles, cordials.

Please ensure containers are not contaminated and lids are removed to assist with faster processing.
